It emerged from the harrowing but inspiring journey of my late mom, Loretta and my own childhood experiences.
Fleeing from a past marred by abuse, we sought safety in shelters and transitional homes. Each time, my mom’s innate ability to create comfort from the very little we had became the foundation of my career choice. To be an interior decorator.
Building Forts within the Storm
Growing up in the midst of uncertainty, I found solace in the makeshift forts I built with blankets and cushions.
Inside these tiny sanctuaries, I carved out my own cozy haven – a space where I could retreat from the chaos and find a moment of peace. Little did I know that these early attempts at creating a safe space for myself would become the seeds of a passion that would shape and grow my future.
Creative Adaption and Collaboration
My mom’s resourcefulness and creativity transformed each new living space into a comforting refuge and left an indelible mark on me. She had an eye for furniture arrangement and creating that balance with lamps and arrangements that made everything cozy!
Finding Beauty in Simplicity
The approach my mom took to making any space our home transcended materialism. Her personal touches that made a house feel like our home were rooted in simplicity. She taught me that the true beauty of a space lies in the loving details. Carefully chosen trinkets, the soft glow of candles, cozy blankets, and creative window coverings.
Her resourcefulness reminded me that a safe, welcoming space isn’t defined by grandeur – but rather by the love and care infused into its design.
From Inspiration to Aspiration
My journey from constructing forts as a child to becoming an interior decorator and a self-proclaimed window fashionista was a natural progression fueled by a desire to create comforting spaces for others.
Initially, my goal, as a proud Metis woman, was to uplift fellow Metis women. However, as my career unfolded, I came to a profound realization that the need to have a safe, comforting space knows no bounds of race, gender, or socioeconomic status.
That led me to discover a practical niche in the industry that was being overlooked.
Educating and helping people recognize the impact window treatments have on our rooms and our feelings of security. They’re not simply fashionable pieces to enhance a room, but they’re functional and financially beneficial.
We Need Patience, Not Deep Pockets
It was important to connect and build relationships with my community. To spread the message of my important mission, that everyone deserves a safe and cozy space to land. Our home not only provides shelter and comfort, but when done right, it can have a tremendously beneficial impact on our emotional and mental wellness. And you don’t need deep pockets.
Think of your space as an ever-evolving work of art. It’s a process that requires patience. Like many women, I love finding a good deal. So, when I’m working with my clients, my understanding of key design elements, including furniture placement, lighting, accent, and, of course, window treatments, while respecting their budget, is what makes me different.
My Why for Windows
Although I’m an interior decorator, the value, practicality, and beauty of window coverings are why they became my focus. As a child, I can remember how comforting it was.
They’re an investment, so I want to be sure my clients will be happy with them for years to come.

When I started my business, That DeCor, I wanted to infuse the same sprinkle of love that my mom, Lorretta, added to every space.
She was a vibrant woman who did her best – and loved the most.
I know she would be extremely proud to see the powerful effect the strength, compassion, and care she showed for her family has had. My mom is the inspiration and motivation for how my décor story began.
